GREAT's Wish List

GREAT is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that relies SOLELY upon fundraising and donations to support our efforts.  We do not have paid staff and all work is done by volunteers who give generously of their time (not to mention gasoline!) and without whom we could not function.

Because we do not have a kennel, all dogs are in foster care, and we operate strictly out of our homes, our needs for non-monetary goods are limited to the following items (due to limited storage space, please check with us before purchasing any of the items below, to insure it is a current need):

·         Cash Donations - this will always be our greatest need, because veterinary care is our highest expense by far.

·         Giant plastic crates (Vari Kennel style) – 32"W x 48"D X 35"H

·         Food - in order to provide a consistent diet for our foster dogs, GREAT accepts only the following brands of dry food:

o        Diamond Adult Maintenance - available at area feed stores

o        Purina Pro Plan - regular adult maintenance

o        We do have some special needs dogs who require specific diets, so we purchase their food - another place where cash donations come in handy!

·         High Feeders - please check with us first to make sure we don't already have an ample supply

·         Adams Flea & Tick Shampoo – the round blue bottle with red cap is the type safe for greyhounds

·         Ear cleaner – available in pet stores

·         Items for Raffle - for special fundraisers throughout the year, and for our annual picnic

In addition to the daily needs listed above, we do have a dream list as well!  GREAT would love to have a small kennel facility where we could place dogs when we run out of room in our foster homes.  Nothing makes this work harder and more heart-breaking than the knowledge that dogs are dying because we have no space.  The facility would need to be in a secure location where volunteers could readily travel to it and care for the dogs on a daily basis.  We would consider this kennel a “halfway house” and move dogs to foster care ASAP.

We also have a need for a GREAT vehicle – a minivan or van in excellent working order to be used for transporting dogs to and from rescues and to and from the vet, as well as transporting items to meet & greets and fundraisers.  We currently use our own vehicles and log thousands of miles every year.
