Torpedo
Whelped: 3/18/00 Sex: M Color: Red Fawn
Temperament:
Torpedo is a playful and loving greyhound. He is curious about
everything he sees. He has shown some intolerance to other breeds, so we
prefer to place Torpedo in a home with other greyhounds, preferably female. He enjoys car
rides, walks and meet-and-greets, and he adores being the center of attention!
If you are interested in adopting Torpedo but worried about potential costs due to his medical condition, please contact us for more information on our Care for Life program! (However, Torpedo has been well managed on the regimen described above and his annual cost of care is approximately the same as any other greyhound). |

Leah Whelped: 9/2000 Sex: F Color: Brindle Temperament: This beautiful lady is sweet, affectionate, loving, and a barrel of laughs. She loves galloping around with her favorite rope toy, and doesn't realize that she is 10, because she has loads of energy to spare. She loves going for walks on her leash, and is so excited when you even mention the word "outside". If you happen to have a fenced in yard, she will show you how fast those beautiful legs of hers can go, and just how silly she can be outside, too! She is a little too curious about cats for us to feel comfortable having her around cats, so we would like to place her in a non-cat home.
This is one happy girl, with loads of love to share! |

Barry Whelped: 10/15/06 Sex: M Color: Black Temperament: Dear Prospective Greyhound Parents:
My given name is Your Themanbarry. In actuality, I am the MAN. But, to avoid any confusion I answer to Barry. Interesting facts about me that I want you to consider:
I am a happy, tall, lean young man. I need a few more pounds to fill out my manly chest. I wear a soft, shiny and sleek coat. Some call me pretty. I prefer handsome. I love people and kids and Iam a real leaner. I get along with cats and wag my tail with zest when I see other pups, large or small. I love to go for car rides and walks. I bounce when I see my leash. I would make you proud as we walk in your neighborhood and folks stop to talk to you and me. Right now my inner alarm wakes me at 5:30 am. But, I would easily adjust it to your preferred wake up time. I enjoy mealtimes, snacks and body rubs (ears, back and don’t forget my belly). I handle my outside chores without any accidents. I’ve been told by some very nice people that I am “a winner”. I would be so happy and proud to be your greyhound son. I long for my forever home so if you want to know anything else about me, write or text me through GREAT. I promise I will answer.

Comet Whelped: 8/21/03 Sex: F Color: Brindle Temperament: Comet is a very beautiful, affectionate and energetic six year old girl who has adapted well to living in her new foster home. Everything is a new adventure to Comet…she loves going for long walks so that she can explore the neighborhood and meet other dogs and people. Her favorite pastime is to plop down on the floor, roll onto her back and get belly rubs. She is cat friendly and gets along fine with the Italian greyhounds she has met, but she is too interested in small furry dogs! She gets along well with the two other greys in her foster family. She eats well and loves anything that resembles a treat. Comet has had her fill of crates and does not like being left alone so she will do well in a home where she gets lots of love and attention! |

Jeremy Whelped: 5/19/02 Sex: M Color: Brindle Temperament: Jeremy was originally placed through the Humane Society of Pinellas, and his owner has relocated and can't take him. Here's what Jeremy has to say for himself:
Hi, I'm Jeremy, and I'm writing my own profile because my foster mom says
that I'm a talker and I need to get this out of my system. So here's the
scoop - I turned 8 in May and feel young for my age, as I still have lots of
energy around the house. I occasionally love to grab a stuffed toy and
pounce on it and toss it around. When it's time to go for a walk, I find
that I can bounce quite high when I hear the leash jingle. I do like to
take walks, but I prefer to keep them short and leisurely - just around the
neighborhood or local park. I don't pull the leash, except when I see a cat
- I'm not fond of cats. My foster parents are always saying that I'm a good
boy and are impressed with my appetite. I eat all my meals without fussing
over them and I love snacks, especially non-fat yogurt and canned
pumpkin...yum! I've been in foster care with other Greys and get along with
everyone, but need to go to a family with just big dogs. My foster mom has
two gerbils who I found to be quite interesting at first, but now they're
just annoying background noise when they run on that silly wheel, so I
ignore them. It's too bad they can't do sprints in the yard like I do. I
sometimes make my foster parents laugh by sneaking up behind "mom" or "dad"
and goosing them and sticking my head through their legs. I don't think they
realize that the kisses and hugs I get as a result are really what I am looking
for! |

Rhino Whelped: 6/1/05 Sex: M Color: Brindle Temperament: Cat-friendly. Rhino comes to us after spending three years at the St. Pete College Veterinary School, and boy is he enjoying life in foster care! He has discovered that the couch is an awesome place to be, and even though his foster family shoos him off, he finds his way right back up there. He enjoys the company of his foster family's pets, and is also relatively vocal, barking and rooing on occasion. Because of that, and also because he has an old leg injury that bothers him from time to time, we prefer to place Rhino with a family that lives in a single family house rather than a condo or apartment that has common walls and stairs. Rhino is a fun boy who enjoys being with people and playing, and will make a wonderful companion for the right family! |

Ace Whelped: 9/26/05 Sex: M Color: Red Temperament: Small dog & cat friendly. Ace is a tall, handsome red boy and comes to us after spending three years at the St. Pete College vet school, where he was considered unadoptable due to his anxiety level. He's a bit timid with new people and situations, but warms up to people very soon and loves to lean against a human for a good neck scratching. He will spend time pacing and panting if something worries him, but once he is allowed to go into his crate to take refuge, he calms down. He's on a low level anxiety medication now and we feel confident that as he continues to get used to life outside of the vet college, he will be able to wean off of the medication and leave his anxieties behind. and we will be testing him with cats soon. Since Ace gains confidence from the company of other dogs and also really enjoys racing with them around a fenced yard, we'd like to place him with at least one other greyhound. He is a sweet boy who is discovering the joy of giving doggie kisses, and he will make the right family a wonderful pet! |

Brooke Whelped: 9/21/05 Sex: F Color: Red Temperament: Brooke is a beautiful, shy young lady, who is slowly gaining confidence in her new life as a pet. While not very outgoing, once she becomes comfortable with her people she will approach for a petting. She gets along fine with the greyhounds in her foster home and seems to gain confidence with them, so we would like to place her with at least one other greyhound or other large dog. She is a bit afraid of the cats in the foster home, having been put in her place very quickly by the resident boss cat when she first arrived! She walks well on leash, and enjoys car rides. This beautiful girl just requires patience and understanding and will be a wonderful pet! |

Rocky Whelped: 12/31/02 Sex: M Color: Brindle Temperament: Rocky was originally placed for adoption by GREAT in 2007, and is being returned due to a change in his family's circumstances. Rocky is cat and small dog friendly. He does very well with a routine, sleeps through the night and crates easily. He was an only dog but seems to be enjoying the company of the other greyhounds. Rocky loves women, and will come to them easily to be petted. He warms up with a little time to men, but is afraid of hats. He is nervous around small children and I would recommend he goes to a child-free home. Rocky is a tall, lean boy who eats on his terms but is always happy to get a treat. He is very sweet and sleeps through the night on a dog bed in our bedroom. He likes soft toys and sometimes likes to hide out in his crate. He walks well on leash and potties in the fenced yard, no accidents in the house. Rocky was recently diagnosed with Pemphigus (SLO), a very common problem in greyhounds that affects the toenails. He will be on inexpensive daily supplements for his toes, and will need to have his toenails trimmed and kept short in order to alleviate any issues. |

JJ Whelped: 5/8/08 Sex: M Color: Red Fawn Temperament: JJ was placed by GREAT in May 2010, but his family returned him a few weeks after enrolling him in a program for children, because he started showing fear of children and some strangers. He would growl and then try to hide from the child or stranger. He has been back in foster care for a couple of weeks, and has shown no signs of fear or aggression. We will continue to work with him, and hope to place him in a home without young children. Stay tuned for more information on JJ! |
