Susie

Whelped:  5/5/99   Sex: F     Color:  Black

Temperament:  Susie Q is a sweet, loving and even tempered girl who loves attention and being in the same room as everyone. She is small dog friendly but cats seem to be viewed as something to chase. She gets along great with her foster brother who is also a greyhound, but she is a little timid of small children and keeps her distance.  She greets you every time you walk in the front door with a wagging tail and an excited face that can’t wait to see you, even if you just went to check the mail! She loves to be outside in the yard and is the first one to the door when you pick up the leash.  She walks very well on lead and loves her walks!  She hasn’t shown any interest in the couch but does love her dog bed. She has a good appetite and loves her milk bones for an afternoon treat.  She plays with her squeak toys for short periods of time when she is feeling feisty! She is such a sweet senior girl and would make a great friend!

Matt

Whelped:  8/4/01  Sex:  M    Color:  White with Brindle

Temperament:  Matt is a super sweet senior boy. He does very well once he is used to your routine. He eats well, eating twice a day from his high feeder. Matt is affectionate and likes to have his foster mom rub his ears. He can be shy with new people, but warms up to them with time. He has been a pleasure to foster and sleeps through the night on a dog bed in his foster parents’ bedroom. He likes to be close to us when we are home but does fine hanging out with his greyhound foster sister during the day while the humans are at work.

Matt is a little slower in his older age and likes to lounge around most of the time. He does have sensitive feet and our vet reports that he is flat footed, which results in the development of corns on 3 out of 4 of his feet. The corns can be held at bay with regular maintenance and Matt has adjusted the way he walks to compensate- slow and steady.

He is a fun, handsome sweet heart of a dog with a goof ball side. When he gets happy in the yard he is seen prancing and watch out - he may run right into you in a fit of joy!  Matt just needs someone to give a super senior a chance and he will prove that seniors are just as wonderful as the young kids!

Bree

Whelped:  3/8/06   Sex: F    Color:  Black

Temperament:   Bree, formerly known as Homegirl, is littermate to Dory Postma and Dash Sia, half sister to Yentl DePietto, and daughter of bridge angel Yokel Freshcorn, all placed by GREAT.  She is NOT cat-friendly!  Bree has had no potty mistakes and sleeps through night on a dog bed.  She can be a little grumpy with the other dogs when they get too close to her bed while she is lying down.  She is a vocal girl – likes to roo!  She has a good appetite as well.  Bree has some weakness and stiffness in her hind leg and therefore she looks drunk when she first starts walking, but evens out.  She does like to walk and is very interested in outside critters, but is responding to "come Bree" to get her attention back on walking.  We will have more information on Bree soon!

Colby

Whelped:  10/30/08  Sex:  M    Color: Brindle

Temperament: Colby is adjusting to pet life and is having a great time playing with the Italian greyhound, miniature pinscher, and cat in his foster home. He is a handsome young tall brindle boy who uses that long nose in search of treats and toys around the house. Car rides are a joy but he is skittish about walking in the neighborhood and prefers the foster family's fenced yard. Colby will retire to a kennel when he wants quiet time, but prefers to sleep all night on a dog bed in the bedroom. He is fearful of new things and reacts to new situations and new people by growling then running to his crate. This is not a sign of aggression, but of fear. When left to get used to things in his own time, he settles down and soon is right in the middle of the action again, with enthusiasm and happy tail wags. He would do best in a home without young children. With understanding and just a little patience, Colby is going to be somebody’s new best friend as he is a complete love bug!

Taz

Whelped:  5/5/04  Sex:  M    Color:  Black

Temperament:  Taz is a happy medium sized male greyhound, with a big toothy smile! He came into foster care on July 3, 2011 and immediately took to pet life. At first he was fostered with 3 female greyhounds and 1 male Italian greyhound. He mastered going up and down stairs easily and on his own! He enjoys riding in the van, though he has to be helped into the van, spoiled boy! He is eating well, walks nicely on the leash, and sleeps through the night.

At the greyhound farm Taz did pass the initial cat-test. However, he is very interested in the squirrels and outside cats in the townhouse complex, so he will need another cat-testing, or ideally be fostered in a home with cats first, should someone with cats be interested in him.

NOTE: Taz has a metal plate in his rear hock, a repair of a racing injury. As with many of the retired greyhound athletes, glucosamine supplementation is highly recommended. Taz is taking daily glucosamine supplementation in foster care, 2000 mg per day (1000 mg each meal).

Kami

Whelped:  5/14/07 Sex: F    Color:  White & Red

Temperament:  Kami is doing great in her foster home, which includes 3 senior female greyhounds and a senior male Italian greyhound. She is good in the crate while her foster mom is at work. Kami is eating well, enjoys her rides in the van and loves to go for walks.  Kami has pannus, an eye condition that is somewhat common in greyhounds.  Her inexpensive eye medication will need to be continued throughout her life to keep the pannus under control. Now that she is settling into pet life, she is becoming very vocal. She barks in the morning to wake her humans, and she is thrilled to see outside cats and squirrels thinking "the hunt is on"! Kami is very affectionate and shows it by snuggling and licking. A small girl at 53 pounds, one must be vigilant at doors as she is a dasher and goes around you, as well as between your legs. She will be happiest with a fenced yard in the family.

Becca

Whelped:  4/15/06 Sex: F    Color:  Black

Temperament:  Becca was just adopted out by GREAT a few days ago, but unfortunately the family realized they weren't all on the same page about having a dog, and so this wonderful little girl was returned to GREAT.  Becca is playful, affectionate, and gets along with kids, dogs and cats.  She is unhappy as an only pet, so will need to go to a home with at least one other dog.  Littermate to foster dog Benny and newly adopted Brandy, she'll be a wonderful dog for the right family!

Becca

Benny

Temperament:  Benny is being fostered with a female standard poodle, male Dalmation/Great Dane is, male greyhound, very senior cat (who likes him a lot!), and caged birds. He enjoys walks in the neighborhood and is happy and outgoing, and is littermate to foster dog Becca and newly adopted Brandy!

Benny

Dulcet

Whelped:  1/5/03  Sex: F    Color:  White

Temperament:  Dulcet is a gorgeous “young” senior girl with big beautiful eyes. She walks very well on the lead and likes to ride in the car. She has taken to being part of a family like she’s being doing it her whole life. She gets along very well with her foster brother and sister greys, and was wonderful with 4 young children (ages 2 to 11) when they visited for Thanksgiving. She loves to play with her stuffies, and likes to keep them close. She loves to cuddle, and will put her head in your lap when she needs some loving. She is patiently waiting forthe right loving family to take her into their lives!

Marc

Whelped:  10/10/09  Sex: M    Color:  White & Brindle

Temperament:  Marc is a fun loving 2 year old who did not progress beyond his schooling races.  He is currently being fostered with 3 senior female greyhounds and 1 senior male Italian greyhound and is doing well with them.  He cat-tested OK with cats ate the greyhound farm, but is currently not in a home with a cat.

Marc enjoys riding in a van, taking walks, and eating.  He sleeps through the night.  When his foster mom is at work he is crated and is good in the crate.  Marc has figured out how to go up and down stairs on his own.  He is a bit mischievous and will shred paper.  The garbage can in the kitchen is stored safely in the kitchen closet which has a regular door knob. He has found how to open the lever latch in the patio, so doors with that sort of door latch do need to be locked!
